Assalamualaykum 

My name is Shahruma Islam, and I am a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner licensed in New York.  My journey in the field of mental health began with a passion for understanding the intricacies of the human mind.  I pursued my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Purdue University while gaining valuable experience working as an inpatient psychiatric registered nurse for many years at Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital. 

I pursued further studies and attained a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner across the lifespan at Eastern Kentucky University. It was during my clinical rotations that I realized the lack of awareness for women’s mental health issues and mental health in general in marginalized communities. It fueled my passion to debunk myths and chip away at negative stigmas surrounding mental health by educating my patients to make better informed decisions.  Over the years, my experience has not only enriched my understanding but also refined my expertise in delivering comprehensive mental healthcare services with a holistic approach
