About Leena Abushanab

Leena Abushanab is a clinical counselor with Magnolia Counseling. She is a counselor specializing in clinical mental health with Masters in clinical psychology and have obtained my Masters degree from Benedictine University in Lisle, IL.  She values Spirituality, healing, and self-care. Obtaining holistic healing for our mental health can be one of the greatest methods of self care. Her belief is that all humans have a light within them that can sometimes be diminished by the trials of life; this light can be brought out by the help of another. Leena believes it is her job as a counselor to remind the person who is suffering that they have the power to heal. She always strives to be the guiding light that allows healing to happen within a therapeutic session and through a holistic manner. She has proven time and time again that what she possesses in sessions with clients is a valuable gift; a gift that she shares with her clients, which has allowed her clients internal light to come shining through.

Faith can be an important viewpoint to consider when exploring healing and if my clients want, it is welcome within our sessions. I am a wholehearted believer that there is ease within our struggles. To me, this means there are many different avenues for relief for our issues and I strive to be at least one of the avenues of comfort to another person’s struggle or difficulties. One of my favorite quotes is “Be the moon in somebody’s night. Be the ease during someone’s hardship” – Yasmin Mogahed. I am a bilingual counselor fluent in Arabic and my counselor style consists of CBT, Solution Focused Therapy, Person Centered, DBT informed, and Narrative Therapy. There is no one size fits all approach, and it is my goal to meet every client where they are within their therapeutic healing. I am passionate about increasing awareness for mental health in the Muslim, Arab population, BIPOC communities, and woman from different backgrounds. I know that I make a difference within these communities and I hope to continue to shine my gifts with others and help them grow.”

Finances & Insurance
Typically, most insurance plans cover therapy and other mental health services. If you plan to use insurance to pay for your therapy, we can check your policy to see the scope of coverage your plan includes, whether our services are included as “in-network” for your policy, and what your co-pay will be (when applicable). However, sometimes unexpected changes may occur with your insurance policy, such as changes in co-pay or coverage.

Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the policy holder to be aware of what their insurance will and will not cover.

At Magnolia Counseling, we will do our best to help our clients understand their coverage, but clients are responsible for whatever costs insurance does not cover.
Sliding scale rates are negotiable for clients who are facing financial hardships.
Standard out of pocket rates are $200 a session. For clients with insurance who are out of network, a Superbill can be provided upon request so that the client may submit for reimbursement from their insurance provider if they qualify for out of network benefits.

We currently accept the following insurance plans:

BCBS PPO
BCBS Bluechoice
Payment Methods
American Express Discover Mastercard Visa
